On January 3, 2018, Intel announced a set of vulnerabilities that affect every computer, phone and server with an Intel processor. These vulnerabilities have been assigned the names “Meltdown” and “Spectre”. This flaw has existed for approximately 20 years and could allow malicious applications to access protected information stored by other applications on the computer. Because of this announcement, the application of monthly Microsoft Operating System Patches was compromised.
Worksighted has been working to evaluate the impact and, using our managed services tools, developed methods to address this issue and are ready to share the current status of this situation:
Here’s what we’ve accomplished: So far, Worksighted engineers have successfully updated all compliant systems to resolve the current Microsoft Patch Issue mentioned above. End users should not expect to see any changes to their systems, but please be aware that this situation is evolving and we are continuing to monitor changes and updates as they are provided. Engineers have also successfully identified all non-compliant systems and are working to remediate the situation on a case by case basis.
What we need from you: To ensure that all updates we have placed on your network are applied and performing to plan, we encourage you to do the following:
- Reboot your workstations at your earliest convenience, this will ensure all of the updates are complete and eliminate the potential need to contact Worksighted support.
- If you have compliant workstations that are not currently connected to your network, we also ask that you connect these workstations to your network to make sure they receive the necessary updates as well.
